Description

Ashby is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead and grow our engineering team in Europe. We are building a different kind of engineering culture where engineers take full ownership of projects, from writing product specs to making product decisions, without being constrained by excessive process. As a manager, you will focus on developing your team's skills, fostering an environment of autonomy and trust, and ensuring engineers can do their best work consistently. You will also stay hands-on by coding, debugging, and improving our developer experience, while avoiding being on the critical path. We are looking for someone passionate about both management and technical work, who can coach engineers to thrive with ownership and help build a high-performing, diverse team.

Requirements

  • Passionate about both management and technical work
  • Ability to hold in-depth conversations with direct reports across infra, backend, and frontend
  • Enjoy management problems and get excited about driving people to be their best, giving difficult feedback, and building systems that make this easier
  • Hold your team to a high standard and don't shy away from giving feedback, even to the best folks on your team
  • Excellent and empathetic communicator
  • Know what exceptional engineers look like and how to recruit and grow them
  • Good at thinking about product and business, but not interested in calling the shots
  • Thrive in high-trust, high-autonomy environments
