Description

Babbel Labs is an AI-first, independent company within the Babbel group, based in Berlin, focused on building the future of language learning. As a Senior iOS Engineer, you will join the Learning Experience teams to build core learning features such as the learning path, exercise player, and real-time speaking practice. You will own the experience end-to-end, shipping it as a distributable Swift package integrated into Babbel's main iOS app, and you will work closely with product, design, and cross-platform engineers. The role emphasizes an AI-first mindset, using coding agents as first-class tools in design, build, test, and review processes. Success is measured by the quality and impact of shipped learning experiences, codebase health, and knowledge sharing.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience building scalable iOS applications using Swift.
  • AI-first mindset: actively embrace AI coding tools, direct agents through feature work, and critically review their output.
  • Strong, up-to-date Swift including Swift 6 strict concurrency (actors, Sendable, isolation) and structured concurrency.
  • Deep SwiftUI experience and solid grounding in the Apple ecosystem and Human Interface Guidelines.
  • Strong opinions on state management and testable architecture, experience with unidirectional-data-flow architecture.
  • Testing as a first-class habit: deterministic unit tests, snapshot tests, and CI/CD discipline.
  • Experience designing module boundaries, frameworks, or SDKs that other teams consume, ideally as distributable Swift packages.
  • Experience designing or consuming evolving JSON APIs and collaborating with contract-first backend teams.
  • An eye for good architectural decisions and balancing technical debt against delivery speed.
  • Comfort with ambiguity and fast iteration.
  • Clear, concise communication and an open mindset for feedback.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English.
