Description

Helsing is looking for a hardware engineer in Munich to build flight-ready physical prototypes for its advanced drone platforms (the posting body describes the role as Rapid Prototyping Engineer). The role spans mechanical design, electrical integration and hardware iteration, turning incomplete or evolving designs into testable hardware on short timescales. You will modify airframes, build wiring harnesses, integrate and configure flight controllers such as PX4 or ArduPilot, and run field test campaigns using telemetry to refine CAD models. It suits an engineer who has taken UAVs or complex mechanical/robotic systems from concept to field testing and is skilled in CAD and workshop fabrication.

Requirements

  • Experience taking unmanned aerial systems or highly complex mechanical or robotic systems through the full cycle from concept to assembly to field testing
  • Proficiency in 3D CAD (SolidWorks/PDM or Siemens NX/Teamcenter) and structural validation techniques including FEA on aerospace or UAV hardware, with solid understanding of GD&T
  • Skilled in workshop fabrication with composites, metals, 3D printers, precision hand tools, and soldering stations
  • Practical experience integrating and troubleshooting flight control platforms, payload electronics, and power distribution systems on UAV or similarly complex platforms
  • Comfortable working with incomplete documentation and evolving requirements, taking end-to-end ownership
