Description

Hornetsecurity, a global cloud-based Microsoft 365 security provider, is hiring a Data Engineer / Software Engineer for its Hannover site. The role builds robust software and data solutions that reliably connect operational systems, the data warehouse and AI applications, laying the technical foundation for scalable data products and AI use cases. Responsibilities include designing efficient ETL/ELT processes, orchestrating pipelines with Airflow, ensuring data quality through automated testing and monitoring, and evolving the data warehouse with semantic layers, semantic queries and MCP. It requires strong Python and SQL skills, data warehousing experience and DevOps practices.

Requirements

  • Completed vocational training, degree or comparable qualification in computer science, business informatics, software engineering or data science
  • Relevant experience in data modelling and data warehousing or other data architectures, with best practices for incremental loads, idempotency and slowly changing dimensions
  • Confident use of orchestration tools such as Airflow and knowledge of running reliable, observable pipelines, plus good knowledge of transformation tools such as dbt
  • Familiarity with unit, integration and data-quality testing
  • Good Python skills for data processing, automation and production-grade code
  • Very good SQL skills and experience with database technologies such as PostgreSQL
  • Experience integrating data sources and AI technologies (semantic layers, semantic queries, MCP) and confident use of AI coding tools such as Codex, Claude Code or Cursor
  • Knowledge of DevOps practices such as Git, CI/CD, Docker, Infrastructure as Code and monitoring
  • Good German and very good English
