Description

Celonis is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to join its Engine Orchestration team in Munich, which builds and operates the distributed services that run, scale, and balance Celonis's analytical query engines. The role leads engineering for the company's new premium query engine and drives a multi-year migration of customer workloads onto it, while keeping Tier 0 and Tier 1 services operationally healthy. Responsibilities span microservice design in Java, Spring, RabbitMQ, and Postgres, plus building AI agent tooling to streamline team operations. Candidates need 5+ years of Java experience, strong Python skills, and a background in data-intensive, performance-critical distributed systems.

Requirements

  • University degree in Computer Science or comparable education
  • 5+ years of professional experience building Java applications that are scalable, reliable and testable, including owning them in production
  • Fluency in Java and Python is required
  • Strong experience with data-intensive, performance-critical distributed systems
  • Experience rolling out changes across a large fleet of distributed systems, with an instinct for incremental, reversible, measurable steps
  • Track record of developing and operating systems that process data workloads at scale
  • Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms from a performance perspective, and of asynchronous and concurrent programming
  • Ability to turn a vague, customer-facing problem into a concrete executable plan and explain it to non-engineer stakeholders
  • Excellent communication skills in English
