This Senior Firmware Engineer role develops the next generation of advanced robotics systems for Amazon Industrial Robotics, combining AI, control systems, and mechanical design to build automation that works safely alongside humans. The engineer owns the architectural design of complex control systems end to end, leads the firmware development lifecycle from concept through field deployment, and drives system bring-up, root cause analysis, and troubleshooting. The role requires deep, hands-on expertise in embedded firmware for motor control systems, ARM architecture, real-time operating systems, and Field-Oriented Control strategies. It is based in Munich and combines technical leadership with hands-on robotics engineering.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of professional experience delivering production embedded firmware for motor control systems
  • Proven record of owning the full software development lifecycle end to end in robotics or industrial automation
  • Expert-level software architecture design and C/C++ development for resource-constrained embedded systems
  • Deep, hands-on proficiency with ARM architecture, processor peripherals (timers, PWM, ADC, communication interfaces), standard interfaces (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN), and industrial communication protocols (EtherCAT)
  • Extensive, production-grade experience with real-time operating systems such as FreeRTOS
  • Authoritative expertise in Field-Oriented Control (FOC) and advanced motor control strategies
  • Hands-on experience with power electronics, schematic reading, and close collaboration with hardware engineers
  • Demonstrated track record as a mentor, tech lead, or engineering team lead
