Description

trivago is hiring a Mid-Level Site Reliability Engineer for its SRE Data Squad in Düsseldorf, responsible for keeping the company's data backbone running across 8 production Kafka clusters plus managed Flink, Cassandra, and Redis services. The role blends software engineering with operations: building monitoring and observability, automating repetitive work (including with AI-assisted tooling), and sharing an on-call rotation with protected recovery time. Infrastructure spans Google Cloud Platform (GKE, Compute Engine) and an on-premises datacenter managed with Rancher. Candidates need hands-on production Kubernetes and Kafka experience plus strong troubleshooting skills in distributed, data-intensive systems.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience operating Kubernetes in production together with practical Kafka experience
  • Experience running infrastructure in both cloud and on-premises environments, ideally Google Cloud Platform (GKE and Compute Engine) and Rancher
  • Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills in distributed, data-intensive systems, moving from first symptom to root cause across multiple services
  • Comfortable setting priorities independently, including under incident pressure
  • Genuine learning mindset and performance mindset with determination to achieve ambitious goals
