Description

Zalando is hiring a Senior Applied Scientist into its Pricing Platform department in Berlin to develop the machine learning models and algorithms behind its algorithmic pricing solution. The work centres on large-scale, article-level demand forecasting across more than 500,000 articles, using deep learning and gradient boosted trees to optimise profit and manage stock risk despite the scale and seasonality of the inventory. The scientist drives ML operations, data analysis and model deployment in production on Databricks, and creates and tests scientific hypotheses. Close collaboration with data scientists, software engineers and product managers is required to analyse and monitor the impact of the pricing solution. The role sits within Zalando's Applied Science community and follows a hybrid model with up to 40% remote work per week.

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics or a similar quantitative field
  • Strong mathematical background and analytical skills
  • Deep expertise in machine learning methods such as deep learning and gradient boosted trees
  • Extensive hands-on experience building production-grade models with frameworks such as PyTorch, TensorFlow or LightGBM
  • Strong foundational knowledge in machine learning
