Description

Scout24 is hiring a Lead Security Engineer for its Security Engineering team in Berlin. This is a hands-on senior individual-contributor role without line-management responsibility, owning the technical direction and engineering outcomes for product, cloud infrastructure and AI security. You would design and evolve reusable controls, guardrails and security-as-code patterns across cloud, identity, containers, infrastructure as code and CI/CD, and lead threat modelling and security architecture reviews for high-impact products and AI-enabled capabilities. The role also involves building paved roads and self-service security capabilities that reduce developer friction, using metrics to prioritise investments, and acting as a technical authority and mentor across the engineering organisation.

Requirements

  • Strong record of hands-on security engineering and technical leadership in a medium-to-large engineering organisation, owning complex initiatives from direction through implementation
  • Deep expertise in application or cloud security, with breadth across infrastructure, identity and data security
  • Experience building security controls for cloud-native environments, ideally AWS, including containerised workloads, infrastructure as code and CI/CD systems
  • Strong software engineering and automation skills, writing production-quality code or tooling with technologies such as Python or Terraform
  • Practical experience with threat modelling, secure architecture and embedding security throughout the software development lifecycle
  • Excellent judgement and communication, able to turn ambiguous risks into clear decisions and influence without formal authority
  • Self-driven, adaptable and pragmatic working style with a continuous-improvement mindset
  • Experience leveraging AI tools to drive problem-solving and productivity while maintaining human oversight
