Description

Delivery Hero is hiring a senior data scientist as maternity cover for its Logistics team in Berlin. The role optimises on-demand last-mile delivery operations that involve hundreds of thousands of couriers and restaurants and millions of orders per day across more than 65 countries. Working with a squad lead and stakeholders, the data scientist shapes modelling approaches at scale and builds solutions drawing on machine learning, operations research and statistics. The job includes pair-programming to automate model retraining and prediction generation, defining data needs together with data engineering and tech teams, and working with semi-structured data from a BigQuery warehouse processed with Spark where needed.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of experience applying machine learning methods to real-world datasets
  • Fluency in Python and its scientific and visualisation libraries such as NumPy, pandas, scikit-learn, matplotlib and plotly
  • Ability to translate business problems into technical solutions
  • Experience solving regression and classification problems with statistical, linear and non-linear models and especially ensemble models such as Random Forest, XGBoost, LightGBM and CatBoost
  • Experience with big data platforms such as BigQuery and Spark and the ability to write SQL queries to pull the data needed
  • Ability to write maintainable code that follows software engineering best practices
