Description

SumUp's Global Bank team builds the core infrastructure and services that give merchants a digital bank account. As a Backend Engineer in the Balance Management Squad you will help modernise and consolidate the European balance management system and build a new global transaction history service used across all regions. The role involves solving distributed-systems problems on high-load banking services, contributing to core architectural decisions for ledger and transaction history systems, and owning services from design through production. You will collaborate with Risk, Treasury, Finance and Infrastructure teams to keep global operations compliant and reliable.

Requirements

  • Solid backend experience building reliable, high-volume services
  • Strong grasp of system design, APIs, data modelling and service interaction
  • Proficiency in Golang and willingness to work with other languages such as Kotlin or Elixir
  • Writes maintainable, well-tested code and follows CI/CD best practices
  • Comfortable building, deploying and running services in cloud environments such as AWS using Docker and Kubernetes
  • Willingness to learn relational databases that perform under load and maintain data consistency
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills across regions
