
Payroll Lead
Description
Helsing, a defence AI company, is hiring a Payroll Lead to own its payroll function across Germany and a growing international footprint. This hands-on leadership role stays close to the monthly payroll cycles while designing the operating model, controls and team structure that let payroll scale with the company. You will set service standards and escalation paths, hold external providers accountable, and safeguard statutory compliance with particular depth in German wage tax, social security and labour law. As Helsing adds entities and enters new countries, you will decide how payroll operates there, from provider and system choices through to the first live payroll.
Requirements
- Owned or led multi-entity, multi-country payroll in a growing international company, including hands-on responsibility for payroll cycles
- Selected, managed and challenged external payroll providers with clear accountability between internal teams and outsourced partners
- Guided payroll specialists or a team, balancing workload, quality and cross-cover
- Built or significantly reshaped payroll processes, controls, systems or operating models
- Deep, current knowledge of German payroll compliance including wage tax, social security and relevant labour law
- Able to operate at both strategic and operational levels
- Fluent communication in German and English, in writing and in person
