Senior Manager, (Indirect) Tax Compliance and Strategic Tax Projects (all genders) - 12-Month Contract (Subject to Extension)
Description
Zalando is hiring a Senior Manager for (Indirect) Tax Compliance and Strategic Tax Projects on a 12-month fixed-term contract (with potential for extension) in its Group Tax department in Berlin. You will own VAT reporting for a portfolio of European countries, independently manage related tax audits, and lead cross-functional indirect-tax projects including e-invoicing rollouts across Europe, DAC-7 implementation and ERP and tax-group integrations. You will act as the key contact for internal and external stakeholders, develop tax policies with the advisory team, and drive the automation and digitalisation of tax-compliance workflows. The role requires a relevant Master's degree or tax/VAT advisor qualification, 6+ years of tax experience, deep EU VAT and tax-accounting expertise, ERP experience (preferably SAP S/4HANA), and mandatory fluency in English and German.
Requirements
- Master's degree in Taxation, Law, Economics or Business Administration, or a professional qualification as a Tax/VAT advisor
- 6+ years of tax experience, preferably in an in-house tax team or an international tax advisory/auditing firm, with practical VAT reporting, tax projects and cross-border tax experience
- Extensive experience in EU VAT reporting and tax accounting, with a strong understanding of EU VAT law, DAC-7 requirements and evolving e-invoicing mandates
- Demonstrated ability to drive complex, large-scale tax projects, including rolling out tax technology, compliance mandates and ERP integrations
- Solid experience with ERP systems, preferably SAP S/4HANA, and familiarity with tax reporting tools
- Team player with excellent communication skills and the ability to manage time and tasks autonomously
- Fluency in English and German (written and spoken) is mandatory
- Willing to work a minimum of 3 days a week in the Berlin office
