Description

Principal Data Engineer role in Zalando's ZMS technology organisation in Berlin, which sources fashion products and consumer goods onto the Zalando platform. You guide the direction of, architect and model data-intensive systems and services that serve high-volume data to partners, engineering teams and internal users, and lead a new approach to building data products and the underlying data platform. The role includes mentoring engineers and working with data and software engineering leaders, product managers and stakeholders, as part of the Principal Engineering Community. It requires 10+ years of experience and expertise in batch and stream data pipelines with AWS, Databricks and Airflow.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of in-depth experience developing applications consisting of multiple modules managed by multiple teams
  • Expertise developing data models and data pipelines for batch and stream processing using AWS services, Databricks, Airflow and similar technologies; Databricks experience and solid programming skills are a must
  • Expertise in designing and developing resilient, scalable distributed systems in cloud infrastructure, with a preference for proficiency in Kubernetes and AWS
  • Excellent software engineering skills to implement effective data strategies in large-scale production environments (data engineering, data version control)
  • Strong communication skills and experience leading organisation-wide collaborations, with the ability to understand the business context
  • Experience coaching and mentoring data engineers
  • Strong advocate for operational excellence and coding best practices, including clean code and readability, combined with strong business acumen
